An Automatic Power Factor Correction system is designed in this project for minimizing the penalty in industrial power consumption. The time lag between the zero voltage pulse and zero current pulse are measured by the Microcontroller and appropriate shunt capacitors are brought into load to correct the power factor. An LCD displays the time lag between the voltage and current and the microcontroller used is 8051.

|Street Light that Glows on Detecting Vehicle Movement:|
Street Lights are very important during night time. They remain ON all night even if there is no vehicle movement and hence a lot of energy is wasted. A solution for this problem is presented in this project where the system detects the movement of the vehicles to automatically turn ON or OFF the street lights. IR sensors are used for detecting the movement of vehicles and the 8051 microcontroller controls the High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamps accordingly.

A microcontroller based autonomous metro train system is designed in this project. It is a fully automated system where the train shuttles between stations with the help of several IR sensors and the door automatically opens and closes as per the preset timers. Additionally, a passenger counting mechanism is also present to monitor the occupancy level. |Automatic Irrigation System on Sensing Soil Moisture Content:|
Agriculture is the backbone of a country’s economy and proper irrigation method is important in agriculture. In this project, an automatic irrigation system is designed that switches the pump motor ON or OFF by sensing the moisture of the soil. A soil moisture sensor continuously monitors the moisture content of the soil and this information is sent to an 8051 Microcontroller. According to the data from the sensor, the microcontroller operates the pump motor. Additionally, an LCD is used to display the moisture status of the soil and state of motor.

Pick n Place robots are very useful in industries. A simple pick n place robot is designed in this project that has a soft catching grip. It is developed using an 8051 based microcontroller. An Android based application is used to wirelessly transmit the commands to the robot. The wireless interface between the robot and the Android device is implemented through Bluetooth communication. As the robot has a soft grip, it can be used to handle delicate objects that do not need extra pressure.

|Solar Highway Lighting System with Auto Turn Off in Daytime:|
In this project, an LED based street light system is designed that is powered using solar energy. The street light system also has an auto intensity control mechanism for automatically adjusting the light intensity. A light dependent resistor is used to sense the surrounding lighting conditions. The 8051 microcontroller reads this information and adjusts the intensity of LEDs through PWM technique. It also has a feature of automatically tuning off the street lights during daytime.

|RFID based Paid Car Parking:|
An automatic car parking payment system is designed in this project with multiple functionalities. The project is based on RFID cards, where the 8051 based microcontroller and IR sensors monitor the entry and exit of the vehicles. The users are allowed in the parking space only after swiping the RFID card. During exit, the RFID card must be swiped once again and the parking fare automatically gets deducted from the card.

|Detecting Power Grid Synchronization Failure on Sensing Frequency or Voltage Beyond Acceptable Range:|
An 8051 Microcontroller based Power Grid Monitoring system is designed here. A power grid is connected with many generator units like Hydel, Solar, Thermal, Wind, etc. If the generator unit is deviated from the rules of the grid, it must be automatically disconnected in order to prevent large scale black outs. The system continuously monitors the voltages and frequency from the generators and warns if there are any abnormities.

In this project, real time data of a distribution transformer is acquired remotely over the internet. A temperature sensor, voltage transformer and a current transformer are used to monitor the Temperature T, Voltage V and Current I. The measured values are then transferred over the internet to anywhere in the world. This project falls under the category of Internet of Things (IOT). Underground Cabling is the most commonly used data transfer system. In case of a fault in the underground cable like a breakage, it is difficult figure out the exact location of the fault in the cable. In this project, an Arduino based Underground Cable Fault Detection system is designed that can determine the position of the fault in Kilometers from the base station. An Internet of Things (IOT) based energy meter reading system is designed here. An LDR sensor is used to read the blinking LED in the meter. A GSM Modem is interface with the microcontroller in order to send the readings and cost to a webpage over the internet.

|Display of Underground Cable Fault Distance over Internet:The faults in underground cables are very difficult to identify even though they are very common in cities. The data is extracted in graphical format and can be sent to any webpage through GPRS enabled GSM Modem. The details are also sent to the on board LCD. 8051 is the microcontroller and a series of resistors act as the underground cable for demonstration.|

|Cyclo Converter using Thyristors:Single phase Induction Motors are very common in households like washing machines, water pumps, ceiling fans etc. as they are inexpensive and reliable. In this project, a simple but very efficient speed control of induction motor is designed. This is implemented using Thyristor controlled cyclo converter technique and the speed can be varied in three steps with the help of slide switches.|

|Hidden Active Cell Phone Detector:A simple Cell Phone Detector is designed in this project that can be used to detect any hidden active cell phones. It works on the concept of RF Detector, which is constructed with the help of LC tuned circuit and is set to detect a frequency range of 0.9 GHz to 3 GHz. The range of the device is limited to 1.5 meters to 2 meters as the detector isn’t powerful.
