How To Put Your iPhone Into Recovery Mode

When you purchase an iPhone by paying a premium price, you expect the smartphone to be extraordinary and trouble-free. However, there are times when it may start to malfunction. Here is the list of all the important steps you have to follow to put your iPhone into Recovery Mode. Please note that the steps may vary depending on the iPhone version you have and you will need a Mac.

1. For iPhone 7 or Earlier

If you have an iPhone 7 or earlier version, you need to turn off your iPhone by holding Side button and Volume Down button together. You will see a slider which you need to swipe to turn off. In case the slider does not work, hold Side button and Home button together until iPhone goes completely dark.

Note that you do not have to do this step if you have iPhone 8 or later version.

2. For Your Computer Operating System

If you are using a Mac having macOS 10.15 or high, you have to use Finder app.

If you are using a Mac having macOS of earlier version or you are using a computer with Windows OS, you need to use iTunes app.

3. Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC with the syncing cable.

4. Get Into Recovery Mode Now

If you have iPhone 8 or later version, you need to press Volume Up button & release and repeat the same for Volume low button. After that, press the Side button and hold it till the Recovery screen appears.

If you have iPhone 7, you need to tap and hold Side & Volume low buttons together until Recovery screen displays.

5. Update Using Mac or Computer

As soon as you connect your iPhone, a window should pop up on Finder / iTunes app with the options to Update as well as Restore your phone. Click on Update option. This will initiate the process to find solve fix the issue by advancing the OS  without deleting the data.

How To Restore Your iPhone?

If the update does not work out in the last step, you need to put your device into recovery screen mode

and click on Restore button this time instead of Update button. When you restore, your current iPhone data will get erased and previous backup data will take the place. At times, a new installation of iOS can also take place.

We do not recommend this restoration option as it is going to delete your current data and if you have not taken a backup, you will lose a lot. In most cases, you will not have the current data backed up as iPhone has started malfunctioning suddenly.

How To Get Out of Recovery Mode?

Here are the steps to get out of the Recovery Mode for your iPhone.

Step 1: Disconnect your iPhone from your computer physically.

Step2:  Turn off your iPhone by the button combination as applicable on your iPhone.

Step 3: Turn on your iPhone by holding the appropriate buttons until Apple logo appears.

What If Recovery Mode Doesn’t Work?

If your iPhone problem is not solved by updating or restoring process inside Recovery Mode, the issue is grave. That is when you have to take your iPhone to the nearby Apple Store for experts to check the issue and repair it for you.
