What is Dark Mode?

Dark Mode is a display color scheme where a light-colored text is displayed on a dark background. Most modern operating systems such as iOS, Android, Windows support system-wide dark mode.

There are some benefits of using Dark Mode on your smartphones. The first and most debated one is regarding the battery life. Mobile phones with OLED displays tend to use less battery when dark mode is enabled.

Another benefit is with dark mode, the amount of harmful blue light emitted from your display is very less. Also, reading text with a dark background, especially during nighttime, will reduce the stress on your eyes.

Keeping aside the benefits of Dark Mode, it looks really cool. Even though smartphone operating systems support dark mode on a system level, there are some apps where you have to manually enable dark mode.

Dark Mode on Snapchat

Snapchat is a fun way to communicate with your friends. They have improved the user interface, chat features, sending snaps, and many other things with private profile which allows followers to see posts and stories over the years. One important update from Snapchat is Dark Mode, where you can enable app-level Dark Mode irrespective of the system-level settings. If you are an iOS user i.e. if you have an iPhone, then applying Dark Mode to Snapchat is very easy (which we will see in the next section). But if you are an Android user, it is somewhat tricky to use dark mode with Snapchat as it is not yet officially launched by them for Android phones. We are not sure as to why Android phones haven’t got Dark Mode support from Snapchat but the official support page says that they are still Beta testing the Dark Mode feature and it is slowly being rolled out.

How to Get Dark Mode on Snapchat in iOS?

As Snapchat officially released the Dark Mode setting for iOS devices, it is very simple to get dark mode on Snapchat in iOS. Here are the steps for the same:

Step 1: Open the Snapchat app on your iOS device.

Step 2: Tap on the ‘Profile Icon’ located on the top-left corner of the home screen. This will open the ‘My Profile’ page of your Snapchat.

Step 3: On the top-right corner, there is a cogwheel icon. Click on it to open the Settings page.

Step 4: Scroll down a little bit and in the ‘My Account’ section, click on ‘App Appearance’. Here, you will get three options ‘Match System’, ‘Always Light’, and ‘Always Dark’. All these modes are pretty much self-explanatory.

Step 5: To set dark mode on Snapchat irrespective of your iOS appearance settings, you can select the ‘Always Dark’ option. That’s it. Your Snapchat is now dark mode enabled.

How to Get Dark Mode on Snapchat in Android?

As previously mentioned, Snapchat hasn’t officially launched Dark Mode setting for Android phones. But there is a workaround if you want to get Dark Mode in Snapchat on Android. Let us see the steps for setting the same.

NOTE: These steps are put together for Samsung smartphones but the steps will be similar for other Android phones as well.

Step 1: Initially, we have to enable the ‘Developer Options’ in the Android Phone. If your phone already has these settings enabled, then you can skip to Step 4. If not, read along.

Step 2: Open Settings in your Android smartphone and scroll down to ‘About phone’. In that, click on ‘Software information’.

Step 3: Find ‘Build number’ and click on it repeatedly until it says ‘Developer mode’ is enabled.

Step 4: Now, go back to Settings and click on ‘Developer options’. If the Developer options is off, toggle the switch to turn it on.

Step 5: Now, scroll down and find the ‘Force Dark Mode’ option under the ‘Hardware accelerated rendering’ section. Its description says that this option will enable Dark Mode on apps even if the app doesn’t support dark mode setting.

Step 6: Turn on the ‘Force Dark Mode’ option. This will enable dark mode on all apps including Snapchat.
