Why My Ring Doorbell Is Not Connecting To My Wi-Fi

Ring doorbells need a functional Wi-Fi connection to work properly. Without a proper connection, its service may get hampered.

Often users complain that their Ring doorbell is not getting connected with their Wi-Fi connection. It can happen when a tech glitch appears and prevents the Ring doorbell from connecting with the internet.

For example, in case your Wi-Fi connection is not active or functional, your doorbell will not connect with it. Here are the causes that prevent the doorbell from establishing a functional connection with the router-

The wrong login credentials: It happens when you type the Wi-Fi password or username wrong. As a result, you are unable to connect the doorbell with the active Wi-Fi. Try to check your credentials once to ensure you have typed the right information.

Poor Wi-Fi connection: If your Wi-Fi connection is not strong enough to provide service, the Ring will not work properly. A poor connection can be a result of the poor position of the router too. For example, the router may be hidden beside a cupboard or sofa or may be placed in a congested corner of your home. In that case, you need to place the doorbell within the router’s range for better service. In the case of older router models, the range often differs. Hence, if you use an older model, it is possible to buy a new router.

The low battery of the device– Low battery level of the doorbell or the router can also disrupt the connection.

Power outage: If there is a power loss or power outage, the Wi-Fi will not remain functional. As a result, there will be a temporary network loss, and the doorbell will not connect.

If the connection is properly active and there is no battery-related issue, you may need to take other ways to solve the problem.

How To Reconnect Ring To Wi-Fi

The best way to establish a seamless Wi-Fi connection is by reconnecting your Ring to your router. In most cases, a problem in the network prevents the Ring from getting connected with the Wi-Fi. You can follow any of these steps to reconnect your device-

Step 1: Check Your Network

Often poor network connection disrupts the service of Ring doorbell. In that case, the best way is to recheck the status of the router network.

First, disconnect the doorbell. Then, try to connect your Smartphone with your Wi-Fi router. If the phone connects seamlessly, the network is in a normal state. You can then reconnect your ring doorbell.

Step 2: Password Change

If you have recently changed the Wi-Fi password, the Ring device may not connect with it. That means, even if you have the device connected beforehand, it will require a reconnection. In such a case, you need to reconnect it manually with your router.

After changing a password, open the Ring doorbell app and manually reconnect the device by typing the new password.

Step 3: Reboot Router

A router sometimes starts to lag and takes a long time to establish a connection. In such cases, your Ring will also take more time to get connected.

The Best way to solve this problem is to reboot the router. Just turn off your router and wait for five minutes. After that, you can turn it on. It will start to work fine after a reboot.

Hack: After rebooting the router, first try to connect your smartphone with the router. If the phone connects instantly, you can proceed with your doorbell.

Step 4: Check The Device Power Supply (Battery Operated)

Often low battery causes a Ring device to stop working properly. It’s more common in cases where the battery operates the doorbell.

If the battery level is low or the device cannot recharge itself, it will not connect with Wi-Fi.

In such cases, the best way is to check the battery power of the Ring doorbell to find the cause.

You can check the battery status by following these steps:

  • First, open the Ring smart app on your mobile.
  • Next, click on the three lines on the top left corner of your screen. From here, navigate to the “Devices” option.
  • Select “Devices” and select the Ring doorbell.
  • After this, click on the “Device Health” button found on the screen.
  • Now, you need to check the “Power Status.” It displays the battery charge percentage.

If the battery is not at an optimal level, it is better to recharge the device. After the battery is fully charged, you can reconnect it with your router.

Step 5: Check The Device Power Supply (Hardwired)

If your Ring doorbell is hardwired and receives power directly, you need to recheck its power supply.

If the device does not get a continuous power supply, it will not connect with the router.

You can follow these steps in case of a hardwired doorbell-

  • First, open the Ring smart app on your mobile.
  • Next, click on the three lines on the top left corner of your screen. From here, navigate to the “Devices” option.
  • Select “Devices” and select the Ring doorbell.
  • After this, click on the “Device Health” button found on the screen.
  • Now, you need to check the “Power Status.” It displays the power supply status.

Step 6: Check Compatibility

Usually, Ring devices work with a Wi-Fi connection of 2.4 GHz. They are not compatible with a 5 GHz WI-Fi network as these devices don’t come with complicated hardware.

If you have recently changed to a Wi-Fi router with a connection length of 5GHz, it is the underlying problem.

The best way is to use a Wi-Fi router with a 2.5 GHz network. You can also use a router that is capable of providing networks of both 2.5 GHz and 5GHz.

Step 7: Change Network Password

If your doorbell suddenly gets disconnected from the WI-Fi network, you may need to take another step. The best solution is to change the Wi-Fi password. After changing the password, manually reconnect your Ring device again.

You can use your laptop or PC to change the router password by following these steps-

  • First, type CMD in the search tab of the “START” menu
  • Next, right-click on “Run As Administrator.” A dialogue box will open here.
  • Type “/ipconfig” in the dialogue box. From here, you have to copy “IPV4”.
  • Now, you have to paste the copied code from the browser.
  • After this, login into the WI-Fi admin panel with your login credentials.
  • From here, navigate to the Wi-Fi network and craft a new password. While changing the password, try to use a unique combination with upper and lower case alphabets, numeric and special characters.
