3060 ti Vs 3080 – Find the Difference?

About NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 TiThe 3060Ti belongs to the latest generation of NVidia 3000 series GPUs. This is truly one of the most value-for-money GPUs out there in the market. The 3060Ti is built on Nvidia’s state-of-the-art Ampere Architecture. This architecture easily trumps the old Turing architecture in terms of performance and efficiency.

This GPU, with a GA104 chip, comprises 152 Tensor cores and 4864 CUDA cores that lead to lightning-fast rendering and gameplay. With 8GB of memory and a clock speed of 1.665GHz, the 3060Ti should draw a lot of power. However, the power draw is just under 200W which speaks volumes about the efficiency of this GPU.

The best thing about the 3000 series is that the price/performance ratio has decreased greatly compared to previous generations. For instance, the 3060Ti gets a 35% boost in performance while its MSRP remains the same as that of the 2060 Super.

About NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080The Ge Force RTX 3080 is easily the fastest GPU for laptops. It is built upon the GA104-775-A1 chip and boasts of Nvidia’s latest Ampere architecture. The RTX 3080 has a memory bus that is 256bit wide and comes with a choice of either 8GB or 16GB GDDR6 memory. This graphics card has a PCIe 4.0 interface and comes in different variants based on power consumption.

The power consumption can range from as low as 80W to up to 320W.

Unlike the extreme price tag that is associated with Nvidia’s flagship GPU, the RTX 3090, the RTX 3080 is actually in the affordable range. The prices have also dropped since the release of 3080Ti. As far as performance is considered, the RTX 3080 is light-years ahead of the RTX 2080. It can produce significantly more FPS than the latter. Of course, the 10GB RAM puts it at an advantage over the 8GB RAM of the 2080.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080: Comparison specifications Table

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080: Performance

The RTX 3060Ti is great for 1080p, full-HD graphics gameplay. The frame rates that you get out of this GPU seem to be quite decent at this resolution. However, if you are looking for even higher resolutions like 4K, then you should not bet on this GPU for producing high frame rates.

One of the best things about this GPU is its support for the BAR technology from NVIDIA. This puts it in a position of advantage over other GPUs in its competition in terms of power efficiency. High-frame rates do not have a significant impact on its power draw.

If you are considering an upgrade from the RTX 2080 or RTX 2080Ti then do not hesitaxte because it is worth every penny. The RTX 3080 will outperform both predecessors in terms of frame rate and full HD performance. Games like Microsoft Flight simulator, Cyberpunk 2077, Assasin’s Creed Odyssey, Assasin’s Creed Valhalla, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc. run extremely smooth at an average of 103FPS.

Ramping up resolutions to QHD or 1440p will definitely see a drop in frame rates. However, you will still be able to get a decent frame rate of 89 to 97 FPS, with an average of 94FPS. In 4K resolution, the frame rates will drop to the 60s with an average of 63FPS for most games like Cyberpunk 2077, Metro Exodus, GreedFall, and Assasin’s Creed Valhalla, etc.

The RTX 3080 is definitely a better GPU compared to the RTX 3060Ti in terms of performance. However, the 3060Ti is more power-efficient than the RTX 3080. This means that for notebooks, the 3060Ti is a better choice for extending battery life.

The RTX 3080, on the other hand, has much more VRAM and can produce more FPS at the same resolution when compared to RTX 3060Ti.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080: Theoretical Performance

The RTX 3080 has a CUDA core count of 8704. This is nearly twice that of the RTX 3060Ti which stands at a CUDA count of 4864. The theoretical FP32 throughput performance of the RTX 3080 is also almost twice that of the RTX 3060Ti. The RTX 3080 is capable of 29.7TFLOPS which is amazing compared to the previous generations.

The pixel fillrate of the RTX3080 stands at 164.2 GPixel/s which is much more than the 133.2GPixel/s provided by the RTX 3060Ti. The Texel fillrate of the 3080 is also almost double that of the RTX 3060Ti at 465.1GTexel/s compared to the 3060Ti’s 253.1GTexel/s.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080: Price Comparison

From a price point of view, the RTX 3080 is much more expensive than the RTX 3060Ti. The latter is more value for money costing only $4.98/FPS. So if you are a gamer who prefers 1080p over 4k resolution, the 3060Ti would be a better choice in terms of value as the performance is not much different at 1080p compared to the RTX 3080.

Conclusion:

For lower resolutions like 1080p, the 3060Ti is a value for money GPU as compared to the 3080. Also, the lower power consumption makes it more suitable for notebooks. If however, you plan on gaming at high frame rates in 4K resolution and are looking for a deep and immersive gaming experience, then you will have to shell out those extra bucks to get your hands on the RTX 3080.
